Overview

The non-government sector in Australia has been using collaborative arrangements and variations of the shared service model for many years. However, there have been few detailed case studies of the implementation of shared service initiatives.
This seminar presents findings from an evaluation of the implementation phase of the Multi-Tenant Service Centre (MTSC) Pilots Project. This project was conducted by the Department of Communities, Queensland Government, as part of its Strengthening Non-Government Organisations strategy.
This presentation will include a discussion of the challenges and sustainability strategies for shared services from a literature review, and a detailed case study of one of the three MTSC pilot sites, located in Toowoomba.
Learnings from the evaluation of the MTSC project to be outlined include:

• The anticipated benefits of the shared service model
• The type of organisation the concept was seen as most effective for
• The risks, challenges and barriers to success, and
• Success factors in the implementation process.
